- Fewer scams aimed at consumers. This can be achieved by better policing and if government requires online platforms to prevent criminals from misusing their platform, and if government requires banks to consistently refund scammed consumers.
- Speaking of banks, we wish savvy consumers could trust their bank again. We hear story after story of consumers who have been disappointed by their bank- whether it’s a bank heist where the bank is laissez-faire about protecting their customers’ safety deposit boxes, failure to prevent especially senior consumers from being scammed where the scammers are clearly assisted from within the bank or failure to refund defrauded customers.
- We wish older consumers were consistently treated with respect and justice- we are hearing more and more horror stories about life rights contracts in retirement complexes.
- We wish for clarity on consumers rights where one has bought a vehicle that’s financed, but it turns out to be a lemon. At this stage, financiers are simply washing their hands and debiting the consumer’s account each month, while it appears consumer law requires them to cancel the finance and refund the consumer. The Supreme Court of Appeal is hearing our case about this very issue in May and we are hoping for both clarity and justice for the consumer.
