On 6 July 2026, Trudie was honoured to join colleagues at the 2nd Dialogue on Consumer Protection at the University of Pretoria, marking 15 years of the Consumer Protection Act. In the plenary session chaired by Professor Jacolien Barnard (Universitas), she reflected on the areas of consumer law that have drawn the most attention in practice.
Later, in Parallel Session 2, she spoke on a landmark case law in consumer protection which our firm won in December, Van Niekerk v FirstRand Bank SCA judgment, and how it is shaping the motor industry and enforcement of consumer rights in South Africa.
The dialogue was a rich exchange of perspectives mainly between academics and regulators, and it was inspiring to see the collective commitment to strengthening consumer rights for the future.
